Denmark: a new government proposal intends to make vocational education and training more attractive

On the 22nd November 2018, the Danish government together with several parties from the opposition agreed on implementing a new proposal to boost vocational education and training (VET) programmes. The government’s aim is to attract more young people to attend VET.

The proposal recommends 55 initiatives involving primary and lower secondary schools (Folkeskolen) as well as vocational training colleges. The basic idea is that Folkeskolen should inspire young people to pursue an education involving practical training as well as theoretical training. Moreover the vocational training colleges should improve the educational quality and the educational environment for young people.

The government plans to execute the initiatives between 2019 and 2022 and proposes to support the initiatives with DKK 2 billion.
