The International Centre for Sustainable Development (ICSD) has announced the successful implementation of a multi-tiered support framework for Ukrainian refugees residing in Greece. Executed under the European project “Innovative Solutions for Refugee Integration and Crisis Mitigation in EU Member States (ISRICM-EU)“, the initiatives directly addressed urgent educational, psychosocial, and economic challenges faced by displaced populations.

Co-funded by the European Union under the ESF+ Social Innovation+ initiative, the project highlights how localized, beneficiary-centric partnerships can build long-term community resilience.
ICSD collaborated closely with local stakeholders, community organizations, and refugee-led initiatives — most notably the Ukrainian Educational Hub in Greece (UA EduHub Greece) — to deliver three targeted pillars of support:
-
Holistic Support for Refugee Minors
To facilitate social inclusion and educational continuity, ICSD and UA EduHub Greece deployed an integrated programme combining Greek language acquisition, academic assistance, and psychosocial support.
-
Impact Metrics: 55 Ukrainian minors actively participated in integration activities. The initiative delivered 176 hours of educational support and 28 dedicated psychosocial sessions, providing critical emotional stabilization for 14 high-need beneficiaries transitioning into local environments.

-
Social Grocery Initiative for Vulnerable Households
Addressing immediate food insecurity and economic hardship aggravated by displacement, ICSD launched a seasonal Social Grocery Programme during the winter period.
-
Impact Metrics: The initiative distributed essential food packages, hygiene products, and household necessities to 50 Ukrainian families, directly benefiting approximately 150 individuals. The physical aid was paired with localized counseling services to preserve dignity and foster community solidarity.

-
Capacity Building for Refugee-Led Organizations
Transitioning from immediate aid to long-term sustainability, ICSD established a Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) Support Center to empower refugee-led and diaspora organizations.
-
Impact Metrics: Three community-based entities participated in the programme. Over 13 institutional representatives received specialized mentoring, educational training, and strategic networking opportunities to improve organizational sustainability and civic participation.

Driving Sustainable Integration
Independent feedback from the beneficiaries indicates exceptionally high satisfaction rates across all three modules. By combining emergency humanitarian relief with structural capacity building, the ISRICM-EU project establishes a scalable blueprint for refugee integration across the European Union. As the project concludes, ICSD reinforces its institutional commitment to fostering equal opportunities and social innovation for vulnerable populations.
