Welcome Center Coordinator (Part-Time)
Location: Athens
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Part-Time)
Reports to: Director and/or Project Manager
Organisational Context
JRS Greece, established in November 2015, focuses on supporting vulnerable individuals. Its mission is to promote the social inclusion and integration of refugees and other forced migrants in Greece. JRS engages in projects that support people from their first arrival, accompanying them through a process towards self-sufficiency and full participation in Greek society. JRS Greece manages 5 projects in the heart of Athens: the Women’s Day Centre, the Pedro Arrupe Centre, the Free-shop (Magazi), Magistories, and the Welcome Center.
About the Welcome Center:
Our center is a safe, inclusive space where refugees, migrants, and local community members come together to connect, learn, and heal. While we offer free coffee and tea, our deeper mission is reconciliation, empowerment, and community building through meaningful interaction and shared experiences.
Role Summary:
We are looking for a compassionate Coordinator to oversee the daily running of the Welcome Center. The coordinator will manage activities, guide a diverse team of volunteers, engage participants in the life of the center, and build partnerships with local organizations. This is a key frontline role that transforms hospitality into connection and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate the daily implementation of the Welcome Center’s activities and ensure a welcoming atmosphere.

Lead and support the volunteer team, including shift planning and on-site supervision.

Encourage meaningful participation from all visitors

Animate the space with accessible activities, discussions, games, or cultural exchange.

Handle minor crises calmly and follow safety protocols.

Reach out to partner organizations for collaboration and referrals.

Register new visitors and monitor attendance, feedback, and incidents in line with JRS procedures.

Prepare monthly/quarterly reports on the Center’s activities, workshops, and general operation.

Coordinate the technical resources.

Design and lead short-term or long-term social interventions;

Analyse cases, suggest solutions and refer when relevant to specialized institutions.
Qualifications and Experience

University degree in Social Sciences or a related field, preferably in Social Work, Sociology, Social Policy, Psychology, or similar.

Professional license to practice, where required.

Experience working with diverse communities
-
Strong communication, empathy, and organizational skills.

Confident in creating an engaging, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere.

Experience in partnership-building and stakeholder engagement is desirable.

Calm and resourceful in challenging situations.

Fluency in English and Greek. Any additional languages is a plus.

Digital literacy (email, calendar, basic reporting tools).

Terms of Appointment

This is a part-time position (20 per week).

The initial contract will be for a fixed term of three months, after which it will become an indefinite contract, subject to performance and operational needs.
