Arabic/French Interpreter
Location: Athens
Schedule: Monday to Friday, part-time, 30 hours per week
Reports to: Women’s Day Center Project Coordinator and JRS Greece Director
Organisational Context
JRS Greece, established in November 2015, focuses on supporting vulnerable individuals. Its mission is to promote the social inclusion and integration of refugees and other forced migrants in Greece. JRS engages in projects that support people from their first arrival, accompanying them through a process towards self-sufficiency and full participation in Greek society. JRS Greece manages 5 projects in the heart of Athens: the Women’s Day Centre, the Pedro Arrupe Centre, the Free-shop (Magazi), Magistories, and the Welcome Center.
About the Women’s Day Center
The Women’s Day Center of JRS Greece provides a safe and welcoming space for women and their children. At the Center, they can access basic services such as showers and laundry facilities, connect with one another, and receive referrals to medical, psychosocial, and legal support with our partner organizations. The project actively promotes women’s empowerment by offering a range of skills-based workshops and leisure activities, creating opportunities for women from diverse cultural backgrounds to learn, share experiences, and build supportive networks.
Role Summary:
Women’s Day Center team and the beneficiaries, ensuring that women can access services, participate in activities, and express their needs in a safe, respectful and culturally sensitive environment.
The role includes providing accurate interpretation during individual meetings, group activities, referrals and daily interactions at the Center. The interpreter will work closely with the Project Manager, the social worker and the rest of the team, contributing to the smooth implementation of the project and to the creation of a welcoming and empowering space for women and their children.

Ensuring that communication is clear, respectful and culturally sensitive.

Communicating accurately the content, meaning and tone of oral communication.

Supporting beneficiaries during meetings, appointments or procedures, when needed.

Cooperating closely with the Women’s Day Center team and other JRS staff members.

Maintaining confidentiality, professionalism and discretion always.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Permission to work in Greece.
-
Fluency in Arabic, French and English, both spoken and written.

Working knowledge of Greek will be considered an advantage

Experience working with international organisations, NGOs, public institutions or in multicultural settings

Experience in teamwork
-
Strong communication, empathy, and organizational skills.

Confident in creating an engaging, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere.

Calm and resourceful in challenging situations.

Digital literacy (email, calendar, basic reporting tools).

Terms of Appointment

This is a part-time position of 30 hours per week

Start date: as soon as possible

Location: Athens

The initial contract will be for a fixed term of three months, after which it will become an indefinite contract, subject to performance and operational needs.
